Spirit of the Open - Week 3 2025

Week 3 Recap

Week 3 of the Intramural Open was a blast! PJ’s & Pancakes was our theme and the KCI community delivered an epic Saturday morning party!

Spirit of the Open Winners! Winners are selected by their display of one or more of the KCI Core Values: Bought In, Gratitude, Grit, & Family. Below are the winners and a couple comments from members that voted for each person.

Lauren Ginestra: “As best I can tell, she was the only female to complete the workout Rx - oh, and she rowed with one foot on a skateboard because she has a knee injury! Badass!”

Jeff Downing “Grit to the end. I think he even surprised himself by finishing the workout. It helped that he had a cheering section of about 10 people rallying around him!”

Erika Glazier: ‘She’s pregnant and freaking ripped through the workout!” “ Very pregnant and crushing it-'nuff said! (she did the theme all 3 weeks and came to help with each FNL/SML.”

Stephanie Orr: “Went Rx, even though she rarely does that, and she didn’t give up!”

Here are all of the other awesome Spirit of the Open Nominations from Week 3!

(Stephanie) She did amazing wall walks and kept moving. She pushed herself by completing the workout RX. I was pushing myself to keep up with her.

Gooch had knee replacement surgery the end of January and still chose to participate in the Open. Little bit of grit, whole lot of attitude, I mean gratitude. 😀

(Val T) I am SO proud of my Mom! She has been working so hard at movements in the gym. All of her workouts are "modified" for her. Today during the workout when everyone stopped at 20min if they didn't get it in...she kept going stating she wanted to finishes the workout no matter the time.

(Erika) To watch her do the workout so pregnant, and almost finish was inspiring!! She was incredible!!

(Erika) She’s pregnant and freaking ripped through the workout!

(Val G) She gives 100% during the workouts. She's encouraging and helpful to others.  Val is a good example to follow.

(Jeff) I recently got to know a bit more about Jeff. I asked him for some advice on double-unders and the equipment he used. Not only did he take the time to discuss he lent me his $100 rope for a week to try out. Now on 25.3 he killed it. Just barely making it back to the rower with little time on the clock he pulled with everything he had and was able to complete the workout just under the time cap. Happy to see him succeed. Hope I got the right Jeff since I only know him as Jeff.

(Adam B) Adam has really stepped up for himself and his team in his first Open.  He sees Sydney for mobility and can now do a PVC pass-through!  Because he's been so limited overhead we talked about his scaling the wall walks and weights and trying to finish 25.3-WHICH HE DID! And he's been dressing up and coming to FNL/SML to cheer on and help.

(JEff) I didn't get to see most of his workout because I was judging at the same time but I do know there were about 10 of us surrounding him cheering him on at the end while he was on the rower and he finished it within the last seconds-it was awesome to witness and be a part of that energy.

(Erika) Very pregnant and crushing it-'nuff said!  (she did the theme all 3 weeks and came to help with each FNL/SML.

Carter signed up for the actual open again this year and has been following his rankings; he's 63rd in the region and 110th in the country and super proud of his progress from last year.  He wasn't going to workout Saturday but when he found out Lauren was going alone, he warmed up and worked out alongside her  (and Andy!)

Bill had an awesome red onesie on Saturday morning. On top of that he was my judge.  I didn’t finish the workout but got into the last round of wall walks. I would not have made it that far without Bill. He was encouraging and also pushed me. One of the many reasons KCI is so incredible. Thanks again for all you do!

Erika rocks every workout, even while pregnant showing off the cutest baby bump belly! She is super strong and always shows up to work hard, and encourage and inspire others as well!

(Lauren) As best I can tell, she was the only female to complete the workout Rx - oh, and she rowed with one foot on a skateboard because she has a knee injury! Badass!
