3 staple books on nutrition

Part of our ethos on nutrition guidance is, "become a student." Meaning, take ownership of your own knowledge and choices when it come to the age old question, "What should I eat?" Here are 3 books in our library that we've read (and re-read) and would recommend for you too.

1. In Defense of Food -Michael Pollan

"Because in the so-called Western diet, food has been replaced by nutrients, and common sense by confusion--most of what we’re consuming today is longer the product of nature but of food science. The result is what Michael Pollan calls the American Paradox: The more we worry about nutrition, the less healthy we see to become. With In Defense of Food, Pollan proposes a new (and very old) answer to the question of what we should eat that comes down to seven simple but liberating words: "Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants." Pollan’s bracing and eloquent manifesto shows us how we can start making thoughtful food choices that will enrich our lives, enlarge our sense of what it means to be healthy, and bring pleasure back to eating."

2. How to Eat, Move, and Be Healthy! -Paul Chek

"In How to Eat, Move and Be Healthy! Chek shares his approach to achieving a healthy, balanced lifestyle while dropping pounds and reshaping your body.

This book will help you identify your needs and explain how to address issues that may prevent you from looking and feeling your best. Paul reveals fascinating research and airs controversial topics while providing practical suggestions for achieving peak vitality.

How to Eat, Move and Be Healthy! contains a proven four-step program that has helped thousands of people achieve their health and fitness goals."

3. The Diet Myth -Tim Spector

"Why do most diets fail? Why does one person eat a certain meal and gain weight, while another eating the same meal loses pounds? Why, despite all the advice about what to eat, are we all still getting fatter?

The answers are much more surprising - and fascinating - than we've been led to believe. The key to health and weight loss lies not in the latest fad diet, nor even in the simple mantra of 'eat less, exercise more', but in the microbes already inside us.

Drawing on the latest science and his own pioneering research, Professor Tim Spector demystifies the common misconceptions about fat, calories, vitamins and nutrients. Only by understanding what makes our own personal microbes tick can we overcome the confusion of modern nutrition, and achieve a healthy gut and a healthy body."
